conscientiology

"...the sciences of Projectiology and Conscientiology, which study consciousness beyond the brain, investigating psychic awareness and paranormal phenomena as tools to understand the multi-dimensional human nature."

www.iipc.org

all this stuff fascinates me, in the same vein of interest as when i commented regarding medical sciences - what people choose to treat and how they treat it: what people choose to study and what our various human needs are, the things people seek answers to, etc...

It's such a professional site for such a kooky set of subjects--astral projection and the like. But it doesn't surprise me, there are more practitioners/believers of this stuff than one would expect. I'm a practicing skeptic, but I like the idea of being surprised by life. Who would have thought Newton's laws would become obsolete at the quantum level, that particles could be in two places at the same time, etc. Skepticism doesn't mean blanket disbelief as many think. Just an expectation of proof.

I read this book when I was a kid that left a big impression. It was a tract from an actual society kind of like this IIPC, the Macro Society (http://www.macrosociety.com/index.html). The book is called 2150 AD, and it was about as new age sci-fi as you can get but boy did it get you to think about human potential in a new way. I just found it on Amazon and discovered I'm not the only one who has warm feelings about this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0913080047/qid%3D1102921851/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-0165575-2911023
